Feedly – Down the rabbit hole we go.

Today I found a rather uneven distribution of posts in my feed. Today alone I had three sources from Hacker News, which is essentially a news feed aggregation site of its own. Basically that means I got double-filtered news so that’s not so great in terms of getting a quality, well rounded image of what is going on in the world. Also to be noted is that most of the articles I see are only a few hours old. Typically I do not have anything on my feed highlight that is more than ten hours old at the very maximum, and I also am receiving over one hundred articles per day from across just nineteen sources.

From the major news sources I see a good balance. Typically they cover a wide variety of topics. Today’s one that I found interesting, and that I only saw from one source was the Washington Post’s article “Anthony Weiner has been released from federal prison.” I noticed that since this only showed up once on my feed, were the other articles that said the same thing from different sources filtered out so that this was the one I saw? I wonder if that is just a way to prevent annoying duplicate posts, but it sure makes me feel that my media access is being controlled by feedly. That is not something I am completely comfortable with to be honest, but it may have just been that those sources chose what article to have shown on feedly. Something for me to keep an eye out for I guess.
